It is a well-known fact that the Korean church has achieved unprecedented growth in Christian history in just 120 years. However, the Korean church is experiencing a very sudden and serious collapse. According to the 2010 statistics, church attendance of Protestants has fallen to 7.8 million, and the Korean church is losing more than 150,000 people every year since 2010. Especially, the evangelization rate of the next generation has fallen to 2.5 percent. It is indeed a severe problem in the Korean church. Why did such a severe and tragic collapse suddenly occur? The most important reason for this serious collapse is Confucianism which has always existed in the Korean church as a lump of deadly cancer. One of the most critical elements of Confucianism is human moral zeal. This human moral zeal was one of the reasons for the rapid growth of the Korean church. However, Confucianism has been the greatest hindrance to making the gospel the gospel because it focuses on human moralistic zeal rather than on the free gift of the gospel. In this major project, I studied what Confucianism is, and how it infiltrated the Korean church. I discovered that Confucianism as deeply rooted in the Korean church is the same problem as the other gospel that was in the Galatian church. To prove this, I studied the true gospel of the Bible; I also work with three pastors who are leading a healthy pastoral service in Korea by getting answers for the questionnaire as well as evaluating their sermons. As a result, I was able to confirm that Confucianism was the root of the Korean church's crisis, and that the only way for the Korean church to come back to an abundant life in Christ is to extract the deep roots of Confucianism in the Korean church and return to the true gospel.

It is easy to assume that if we understand the gospel and preach it faithfully, our ministry will necessarily be shaped by it—but this is not true. Many churches claim to be gospel-centered but do not have a ministry that is shaped by, centered on, and empowered through the gospel. The implications of the gospel have not yet worked their way into the fabric of how that church does ministry. Gospel-centered ministry is more theologically driven than program driven. To pursue it, we must spend time reflecting on the essence, the truths, and the very patterns of the gospel itself. The gospel is neither religion nor irreligion, but something else entirely—a third way of relating to God through grace. In Shaped by the Gospel, bestselling author and pastor Timothy Keller addresses several current discussion and conflicts about the nature of the gospel and shows how faithful preaching of the gospel leads to individual and corporate renewal. This new edition contains the first section of Center Church in an easy-to-read format with new reflections and additional essays from Timothy Keller and several other contributors.

While strong, gospel-centered preaching abounds, many Christian pastors and lay preachers find it difficult to preach meaningfully from the Old Testament. This practical handbook offers help. Graeme Goldsworthy teaches the basics of preaching the whole Bible in a consistently Christ-centered way. Goldsworthy first examines the Bible, biblical theology, and preaching and shows how they relate in the preparation of Christ-centered sermons. He then applies the biblical-theological method to the various types of literature found in the Bible, drawing out their contributions to expository preaching focused on the person and work of Christ. Clear, complete, and immediately applicable, this volume will become a fundamental text for teachers, pastors, and students preparing for ministry.

Evangelism. Approaching this task has been a challenge for God's people both individually and corporately since as long as we can remember and longer. We've tried to examine, evaluate, and consider American culture; adapting to reach it, attempting to develop fresh and creative methods to get our message to make sense to the lost. In doing so, we have placed the culture at the front of our consideration. We ask, 'What is our culture like?' and then ask, 'How do we reach it?' Are we asking the right questions? Is this task as complicated as we've made it? This book is an urgent call for the Church in America to repent, recover, and renew our priorities in evangelism. The inspiration for this book came from the author's experience and his benefit from the ministry of Evangelist Ray Comfort and The Way of The Master. This book endeavors to discuss something more than a method of sharing our faith (while that is included), but to truly examine the motives, presuppositions, and thinking behind how and why we evangelize the way we do. This is our most substantial resource on Amazon. Questions this book will answer:* What is Intentional Evangelism?* What should form our philosophy or theology of Evangelism?* How has contemporary Evangelism attempted to reach the lost and to what degree are our methods and the language we use biblical and effective? * Is the gospel still central in our evangelism?* What does it mean to be effective?* How do we deal with our fears of sharing our faith?* What specific counsel does Scripture give us for how to share our faith and what does it teach by example?* What does Intentional Evangelism look like practically?* Is street preaching a legitimate means of reaching the lost? * How do we answer the objections from the lost?CHANGES IN THE SECOND EDITION: -New Cover Design-Minor spelling and other corrections-Additional footnotes and sources-Additional material within body of text, expanded paragraphs-Formatting and Structure Changes-Appendix reviewing Bill Hybels and Mark Mittleberg's book, Becoming a Contagious Christian-Appendix on Is it Wrong to Have an Agenda With Unbelievers?-Appendix on Does 2 John v.10-11 prohibit us from witnessing to cults?-Appendix on Event-Based Evangelism-Appendix on 7 Reasons to Share Your Faith at Work-Appendix on Open-Air SpringboardsAbout the author:Joseph came to know Christ as Savior in 2004 after growing up in a non-Christian home and being an atheist for seven years. He lived in North Texas most of his life. He attended Moody Bible Institute, graduating in 2010 with a B.A. in Biblical Exposition and is currently studying at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He serves as the Pastor of Youth and Family Ministries at Milton Baptist Church in Milton, KY. He has led evangelism teams in North Texas and Chicago for outreach on the streets, in local parks, and on college campuses. He has facilitated, taught, and written evangelism curriculum for youth, college students, and adults. He and his wife also served a two-year term in a domestic incarnational missionary program designed to reach the lost through building community. Joseph simply has a heart to build and stabilize a biblical worldview into the hearts and minds of the church alongside a theology of evangelism that isn't driven by popular culture or sentimentalism, but instead intentionally shares the comprehensive gospel message in a loving yet uncompromising way.*All proceeds go to support my wife and I while we're at seminary.

A resource to help pastors correctly identify the big idea of a passage and apply it well Preaching with Accuracy provides preachers with a method for finding the “big idea” in each passage of the Bible, since correctly identifying the main point is key to accurately conveying the essential theology of the passage. Pelton lays out a reliable, well-informed method for identifying the main point of a preaching passage and understanding that passage well in its context. Numerous examples are given at each step of the way to show how meaning develops throughout the process of interpretation. Pelton then guides the preacher through applying a Christ-centered hermeneutic that will result in biblical sermons that benefit and equip believers.Autore: D. A. Carson

In this Gospel Coalition booklet, D. A. Carson and Timothy Keller recount the origins of the Gospel Coalition and the purpose for which it was formed: to propagate a robust understanding of the gospel’s content and to encourage gospel-centered ministry. Carson and Keller, founders of the coalition and editors of the booklet series, form a theological foundation for the organization’s mission and detail a vision for ministry in a changing world. Ministry today must entail both Bible-centered preaching as well as outreach to the needy. Grounding their vision in the cross, Carson and Keller show how biblical theology flows toward Jesus and the gospel. They also demonstrate how Christian ministry flows from Jesus and the gospel. This summary of gospel-centered ministry is a great resource for pastors and others interested in the Gospel Coalition. Gospel-Centered Ministry offers a thoughtful explanation for the Gospel Coalition’s confessional statement. The Gospel Coalition is an evangelical renewal movement dedicated to a scripture-based reformation of ministry practices.

Many evangelical churches face the problem of the open 'back door'--even as new people arrive, older members are leaving, looking for something else. Combined with this problem is the discipleship deficit, the difficult truth that most evangelicals are not reaching the unchurched at the rates they think they are. In fact, many of the metrics that we often 'count' in the church to highlight success really don't tell us the full story of a church's spiritual state. Things like attendance, decisions, dollars, and experiences can tell us something about a church, but not everything. To cultivate a spiritually healthy church we need a shift in our metrics--a 'grace-shift' that prioritizes the work of God in the lives of people over numbers and dollars. Are people growing in their esteem for Jesus? Is there a dogged devotion to the Bible as the ultimate authority for life? Is there a growing interest in theology and doctrine? A discernible spirit of repentance? And perhaps most importantly, is there evident love for God and for our neighbors in the congregation? Leading a church culture to shift from numerical success to the metrics of grace can be costly, but leaders who have conviction, courage, and commitment can lead while avoiding some of the landmines that often destroy churches. Wilson includes diagnostic questions that will help leaders measure--and lead team transparency in measuring as a group--the relative spiritual health of their church, as well as a practical prescriptive plan for implementing this metric-measuring strategy without becoming legalistic. Most attractional church models can lean heavily on making changes to the weekend worship gatherings. And while some of these changes can be good, thriving grace-focused churches are driven by a commitment to the gospel, allowing the gospel to inform and shape the worship service and the various ministries of the church.

WARNING! This book could make your life messy! Today’s church is continually being confronted with the question, “What is the gospel?” Many churches answer this through strong exposition of biblical truth. Others answer with a focus on community engagement. But doesn’t Christ call us to do both? The covenant of salvation demands a radical re-patterning of relationships. Bryan Lorrits, a pastor in the heart of one of America’s historically racially divided urban centers, seizes the opportunity to engage God, the church, and culture in ways that may challenge your beliefs, practices, and relationships. A Cross-Shaped Gospel clearly articulates the vertical dimension of the Christian faith, as well as looking at the horizontal implications of salvation for growth, service, and community. It provokes readers to think about the implications of living out their faith. What does the gospel mean for issues of: Political engagement? Class distinctions? Race Relations? It is only by reaching upward that we can reach outward in power and with the proper motives, so let A Cross- Shaped Gospel help you in crafting and communicating a biblical philosophy of engaging God and others well!

Academy of Parish Clergy’s Top Ten Books for Parish Ministry Insights from a noteworthy convergence of top scholars in biblical studies and missiology Over the past half century, it has become clear that mission is a central theme in the Bible's narrative and, moreover, is central to the very identity of the church. This book significantly widens and deepens the emerging conversation on missional hermeneutics. Essays from top biblical and missiological scholars discuss reading the Scriptures missionally, using mission as a key interpretive lens. Five introductory chapters probe various elements of a missional hermeneutic, followed by sections on the Old and New Testaments that include chapters on two books from each to illustrate what a missional reading of them looks like. Essays in two concluding sections draw out the implications of a missional reading of Scripture for preaching and for theological education. CONTRIBUTORS Craig G. Bartholomew Richard Bauckham Carl J. Preaching has fallen on hard times with many questioning its relevance and even its validity as a New Testament practice. This symposium of specially commissioned essays draws together an international team of thirteen scholars and pastors to address the importance of textual preaching in the history and life of the early church, the historic church, and the contemporary church. Contributions include essays on Old Testament preaching, preaching in Hebrews, gender-sensitive preaching, preaching in the theology of Jonathan Edwards, Charles Spurgeon, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and in Eastern Orthodoxy. It also includes essays on a range of homiletical challenges that textual preaching raises for the contemporary preacher, including genre, preaching without notes, inhabiting the text, and preaching without platitudes. A final reflection by Dave Hansen on the state of textual preaching rounds out the collection. The preaching of the gospel stands at the heart of Christian praxis. These essays make a vital contribution to the recovery of the importance of preaching, focused on the text of Scripture. Written with an eye to the pastor and practitioner as well as those in the pews and in the classroom, this is a book that should appeal to a wide range of readers.

In the words of author Greg Heisler, “Spirit-Led Preaching is a call issued to preachers, pastors, and teachers of homiletics to recover the Holy Spirit for expository preaching in the same way we have recovered the biblical text. . . . My plan for doing this is to recover the doctrine of pneumatology (the study of spiritual beings/phenomena) for our theology of preaching, resulting in a renewed emphasis on the powerful combination of Word and Spirit working together as the catalyst for powerful expository preaching.” Heisler thoroughly examines how the Holy Spirit illuminates and empowers the preacher, opens the hearts of the hearers, and applies the message to their lives. Indeed, to ignore the Holy Spirit’s role in sermon preparation and delivery would be a considerable oversight.

It is quite easy to assume that if we understand the gospel accurately and preach it faithfully, our ministry will necessarily be shaped by it—but this is not true. Many churches subscribe to gospel doctrines but do not have a ministry that is shaped by, centered on, and empowered through the gospel. Its implications have not yet worked their way into the fabric of how the church actually does ministry. These churches’ theological vision has likely arisen from something other than sustained reflection on the gospel. Gospel-centered ministry is more theologically driven than program driven. To pursue it, we must spend time reflecting on the essence, the truths, and the very patterns of the gospel itself. This eBook contains the second part of Center Church, “Gospel Renewal.”In it, Keller reflects on the history and patterns of revival—how individual and corporate gospel renewal occurs—and what happens as a result.
